NHILL HERITAGE WEEKEND OCTOBER 13th - 16TH 2022
History came alive at the
Nhill Heritage Weekend October 13th - 16th
All tourism venues were open including many of the retail businesses. There was lots of smoke and noise as aircraft engines at the Nhill Aviation Heritage Centre, and vintage tractors at the Nhill Machinery Club, were fired up. Visitors took guided tours inside the old Nhill Silo, with the largest single concrete bin in the Southern Hemisphere, and the historic 1930s Nhill Aeradio Building, meticulously restored by volunteers.
A feature display of uniforms at the Nhill and District Historical Centre, a line up of vintage cars and trucks and a fashion display of dresses from the early 1900's all added to the variety of the weekend.
Visitors checked out the vintage pinball machines at the Australian Pinball Museum, and strolled through Gallery Central and other art galleries in town. Some listened to poetry in the John Shaw Neilson cottage, followed the Nhill Heritage and Nature Trails, or picked up a hand-made craft or delicious sponge at Lowana Crafts. Others discovered unique gifts at Paw Po, beautifully hand crafted by the local Karen (Myanmar) ladies, or settled for a coffee at one of the cafes in town.
Hot Air balloon flights, a spectacular light show on the Nhill Silo, a town concert and a 'learn to fly' day were some of the 'added extras' for the weekend.
Veteran cars were on display around the town.
